Koreana Spring Issue Highlights Korean Contemporary Craft Art

Artisans and designers around the world have hailed the harmony of tradition and modernity as the strongest appeal of Korean craft art. These days, emerging artists are instilling even greater vitality into the Korean craft art scene, by experimenting with new materials and taking on new challenges while continuing old craft traditions. The spring issue of Koreana, the KF’s comprehensive arts and culture quarterly, highlights some of the most interesting works of young artists who, in exploring the possibility of a more sustainable life, show that contributing to humanity is the raison d’être of craft art.

The magazine also features an interview with choreographer Jeon Young, creator of the inimitable movements of Korean zombies, and articles about kkokdugaksi, the Korean marionette performance acclaimed for its perfect harmony of music and dance; a trip to Buyeo, the historical capital of the ancient Baekje Kingdom (18 BCE–660 CE); and dodarissukguk, a fragrant flounder and mugwort soup that announces the arrival of spring.

Koreana is available both in print and online (www.koreana.or.kr).
