The Kitchen, a Window into Korean Life
Join us as we visit the traditional Korean kitchen, a metaphor for women’s lives in Korea; the kitchens of haenyeo, the female seafood-harvesting divers; as well as the kitchens of the future, all here in the fall issue of Koreana!
Our latest issue features stories of various kitchens that offer unique insight into the Korean way of life. By examining the cultural role the kitchen played in traditional homes and observing the kitchen with a sociologist’s eye, this issue sheds light on lesser-known features of Korean life and domestic culture.
The fall issue also presents a variety of articles on contemporary Korean topics, including Seoullo 7017, an overpass-turned-promenade and Seoul’s newest must-see destination; genre painter Kim Hyun-jung, an “art-tainer” known for her spunky works; and a day in the life of an IT company employee, painting a picture of the modern Korean experience. All these features, together with a short story by Kim Yeonsu, can be found in the fall issue of Koreana, now available online at www.koreana.or.kr.
