Meeting the World in Korea ¡Hola, México! Ola, Brasil!
On June 15, three foreign volunteers and members of the World Activity Class paid a visit to the Vision Sam Community Child Center in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do. Nancy, a folk singer from Mexico, was joined by two Brazilian volunteers, Tamara and Nina. These Latin American natives cheerfully introduced their countries and culture to the children through a variety of amusing activities.
Nancy presided over a quiz session, led the song “La Papa Caliente” (“Hot Potato”), and made sincronizada tortilla sandwiches with guacamole. Tamara and Nina helped the children carnival masks as they listened to Brazilian music. Afterwards, they hosted a mini-carnival, serving chocolates they had made.
“I was very grateful to the children for paying attention to me and actively participating in experiencing Brazilian culture,” Tamara said. “They will leave a wonderful memory of Korea in my mind.” Nancy said she was very happy because the children enjoyed the dishes she made. “The food is different to them, but they seemed to enjoy it very much. I feel happy and proud.” Thanks to the children’s curiosity and interest in the culture and food of these two countries on the opposite side of the earth, the day’s program was an event full of joyful energy.
