Publication of Koreana Magazine

Koreana

Koreana is a comprehensive arts and culture quarterly published by the Korea Foundation. Ever since its launch in 1987, it has established a global readership and become part of the collections of universities, libraries, and research centers, as well as of art and cultural institutions in around 150 countries.

Between 1992 and the early years of the new millennium, which saw the rise of Hallyu (the Korean Wave), Koreana launched editions in Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, French, Russian, Arabic, and German to respond to the global interest in Korean culture. With the emergence of digital media, Koreana broadened its reach by offering webzine and e-book editions. In the 2010s, editions for Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Korean were added, further diversifying the channels of intercultural communication with netizens around the world. (Please note that as of 2025, all but the English and Korean editions of Koreana are on hiatus until further notice.)

Koreana’s in-depth special features highlight different aspects of Korea, be it cultural phenomena in contemporary Korean society, striking locales on the Korean peninsula, or Korea’s rich cultural heritage spanning millennia. Regular columns explore Korean art trends, lifestyle, and cuisine, as well as architecture and literature. Koreana allows people around the world to appreciate the universality and distinctiveness of Korean culture, and in doing so, it contributes to the mission of the Korea Foundation: “Connecting People, Bridging the World.”
