Appointment of a new assistant professor of Korean studies at Cornell University
Cornell University recently announced the appointment of Dr. Michael D. Shin as a new assistant professor in the Department of Asian Studies. He will take up his position on July 1, 2001. Dr. Shin majored in English and American literature and language and East Asian studies at Harvard, received his M.A. degree from the U.C. Berkeley and a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago with a dissertation titled "Culturalism and Fascism: Yi Kwangsu and the experience of modernity in colonial Korea." The Foundation will provide part of his salary over the first three years, after which Cornell University will maintain the professorship at its own cost.
