"Maedeup:The Art of Traditional Korean Knots" Published

The Korea Foundation recently published “Maedeup: The Art of Traditional Korean Knots.”This book, written by Kim Hee-jin, a "Maedeup" master designated by the government as Intangible Cultural Asset No. 22, explains the craftsmanship and elegance of the traditional Korean knots, as well as its history and development, which demonstrates how "Maedeup" has evolved into a new textile art form based on modern art influences. The author reviews widespread traditional use of "Maedeup", from decorating royal ceremonial implements and musical instruments to clothing and home accessories for the noble class and decorations for Buddhist banners. The book also explains how to make basic knots by oneself and includes about hundred photos, illustrations.
