Prof. Wang Xiaoli, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of Xi’an Jiaotong University of the People’s Republic of China, will visit Korea from September 21 to September 28, 2009 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

Xi’an Jiaotong University, with its strength in science and engineering, is a university of the highest reputation in Shaanxi Province and one of the ten prominent universities in China. It is also one of the universities which Chinese government designated as focal universities to be supported with aim to develop them into global universities. Since the establishment of Nanyang Public University, the predecessor of Xi’an Jiaotong University, in 1896, it has produced many leaders of Chinese society, such as Jiang Zemin, Former Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Central Committee of the People’s Republic of China, etc.

Prof. Wang Xiaoli, with his expertise in the design of high quality VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) and the communication technologies via optical fiber cables, was Head Professor of the Laboratory of Physical Studies and Chief of the Office for the 100 Global Universities in the 21st Century of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and currently plays a role as Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of the University.

During his stay in Korea, Prof. Wang will visit several prominent universities and research institutes, such as Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, University of Seoul, Hannam University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and have meetings with the President or the Vice-President of the universities and the institutes in order to discuss ways to promote mutual academic collaboration and exchanges.

In addition, he will have opportunities to experience various aspects of Korea by visiting the venue of Global Fair & Festival 2009 Incheon, and touring museums and historical sites in Seoul and Gyeongju city, etc.
