[Invitation] Prof. Erno Rubik, Hungarian inventor of Rubik’s Cube

Prof. Ernö Rubik, inventor of the Rubik’s Cube, will visit Korea from Sept. 22 to 28, 2009 by invitation of the Korea Foundation

He studied architectural engineering at college and worked as an architect until he became a professor at the Budapest College of Applied Arts. He invented the first 3x3x3 cube in 1974. Nearly 350 million cubes have since then been sold worldwide. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he is considering opening in Korea the Cube exhibition which will be held in Europe and Japan in 2010-2011.

During his stay in Korea, he will visit Yonsei University, Kyemeong University and the Korea-Hungary Friendship Society to deliver a lecture and discuss ways to promote cooperation between Korea and Hungary. He will also have a chance to experience diverse aspects of Korea by visiting Gyeongju, Changdeokgung Palace and National Museum of Contemporary Art.

The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle that was originally called the "Magic Cube". The puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Ideal Toys in 1980 and won the German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle that year. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.
