[Notice] Support for Korean Studies e-Resources

  • Date Jan 19, 2010

In response to the growing significance of online resources for education and research purposes, the Korea Foundation has launched a new program “Support for Korean Studies e-Resources.”

Under this initiative, the Foundation intends to provide program support to eligible universities to offset the user/subscription fees that are required to access online Korean Studies resources, for the benefit of Korea-related scholars and graduate students. This program will thus serve to complement the existing materials distribution program.

Eligible Applicants
- Institutions eligible to apply for program support include four-year universities that maintain a Korean Studies department, Korean Studies or Korean language programs, or East Asian programs with a Korean component, which thus need to make relevant e-resources available for faculty members and graduate students majoring in Korean Studies.

Scope of Support
- Up to 50% of the user/subscription fees for accessing Korean Studies e-resources.
Program support per university is limited to $5,000 per year.
- Under this program, applicable e-resources include online databases, e-journals, e-books, and other online resources offered by public institutions or private parties, such as e-Koreanstudies.com (KISS, KSI e-book, Korea A2Z, Kdatabase, KPjournal, e-article, Kyobo Scholar, New-Nonmun, etc.), DBpia, KRpia, and RISS International.

Application Submission
- Please complete the program application form and submit to the Foundation, by e-mail (mjk@kf.or.kr), fax (82-2-2151-6592) or postal mail, by no later than February 12, 2010.
The selected recipients will be notified individually by the end of February, 2010.

Selection of Recipients
- The priority and amount of program assistance for an applicant will be determined by the Foundation’s screening committee, based on such factors as an applicant’s number of Korean Studies scholars and graduate students, extent of usage of Korean Studies e-resources, and efforts to diversify the program beneficiaries, in terms of country and region.

Annual Report
- Institutions that receive program assistance are required to submit an annual report, based on the Foundation’s prescribed form, by March 2011.
