[Invitation] Mr. Kobus van der Walt, Director of Sport, University of Pretoria in South Africa

Mr. Kobus van der Walt, Director of Sport, University of Pretoria in South Africa will visit Korea from April 17 to April 23, 2010 by invitation of the Korea Foundation, accompanied by Dr. Rendani Isaac Mulaudzi, Deputy Director of Sport of the university.

The University of Pretoria, located in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, is one of the most prominent universities in South Africa, with the highest research output in the country. Tuks Sport of the university offers 10 sport academies and operates more than 30 sport clubs. Among the sport clubs, the Taekwondo club, instructed by a Korean master, has been making its contribution to the dissemination of Taekwondo and Korean language in South Africa. Mr. Van Der Walt, distinguished in the field of sport science and physical education, served as the national coach for trampoline, Director of SAASSPER (South Africa Association for Sport Science, Physical Education and Recreation) and Director of Sport of the University of Port Elizabeth.

During their stay in Korea, Mr. Van Der Walt and his colleague will visit the Korean Olympic Committee, the National Council of Sport for All, the Korea National Sport University (KNSU), the Korea Institute of Sport Science, the Korea National Training Center, etc. to promote a better understanding of policies and current status of Korean sport and discuss ways to enhance mutual exchange and cooperation in the field. He will also visit the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, the Department of Taekwondo of the KNSU, an exemplary private Taekwondo academy and the KNSU Taekwondo Poomsae Competition to raise awareness of the excellence of Taekwondo and experience Korean people’s passion toward Taekwondo. In addition, he will have opportunities to meet the Chairman of the Korea University Sports Board and visit Yonsei University to discuss ways to facilitate exchange activities between the universities of the two countries.
