[Invitation] Mr. Jayatilleke de Silva, Chief Editor, Daily News

Mr. Jayatilleke de Silva, Chief Editor of The Daily News, Sri Lanka, will visit Korea from May 27 to June 2 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

The Daily News, Sri Lanka’s premier English-language daily, has been published without interruption since 1918. Also, it is published by the Associated Newspapers (Ceylon) Limited whose majority shares are owned by the Government of Sri Lanka. As such its responsibilities among others are to inform the readers of developments in the country and promote good relations with all countries, in line with the national and international policies followed by the Government in power.

Mr. Silva started contributing to national newspapers as a freelancer in 1967 and became a journalist in the alternative media in the same year. He has worked as editor of various newspapers and journals published in English and the Sinhala alternative pres. Having worked for The Daily News for about 16 years, Mr. Silva has been Chief Editor since 2009. He has been also a member of the Board of Management of the Journalism Course at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute and a member of the Press Complaints Commission Dispute Resolution Council.

During his stay, Mr. Silva is scheduled to visit The Korea Herald, the Press Arbitration Commission and the Association of Korean Reporters and plans to hold fruitful discussions during this visit. He will also visit locations like the National Museum of Korea, Presseum, Bukchon Hanok Village, Cheongwadae, and the Sarangchae Exhibition & Museum for a first-hand opportunity to appreciate Korea’s culture.
