[Invitation] Ms. Claire Chantrenne, at the Museum of Musical Instruments (MIM) of Belgium

Ms. Claire Chantrenne, Curator for East Asian Musical Instruments & Library at the Museum of Musical Instruments (MIM), Belgium, will visit Korea from June 15 to June 21 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

d in 1877, the Museum of Musical Instruments is a music museum located in central Brussels, as a part of Belgium’s Royal Museums for Art and History. The museum's collection represents Belgian musical, European musical traditions, and non-European instruments. The MIM is internationally renowned for its collection of over 7,000 instruments, including 400 pieces from China and 70 pieces from Japan. Among them 1,500 instruments are displayed to the public, and during 2012, MIM is planning a presentation of Korean traditional music and instruments.

During her visit, Ms. Chantrenne will visit relevant institutes and organizations such as the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts (NCKTPA); the National Folk Museum of Korea; Department of Korean Music at the Seoul National University and the Department of Korean Traditional Arts at the Korea Traditional University of Arts. She will also meet Mr. Ko, Heung Kon, the designated Intangible Cultural Asset Instrument Maker No. 42 and Mr. Kim Hyun-gon, maker of Pyeongyeong, a Korean traditional percussion instrument.
