Mr. Francisco Xavier Chamorro, President of El Nuevo Diario, a daily newspaper in Nicaragua, will visit Korea from June 18 to June 24, 2010 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.
El Nuevo Diario is one of the two major newspapers in Nicaragua and was established in 1980 by Mr. Xavier Chamorro Cardenal from the eminent Chamorro family, which produced many political leaders, including six Presidents of Nicaragua. Mr. Francisco Xavier Chamorro, the founder’s son, became Chief Editor of El Nuevo Diario in 1995, leaving his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Nicaragua, and later in 2008 he was inaugurated as President of the newspaper.
During his stay in Korea, Mr. Chamorro will visit the Korea Press Foundation and prominent media agencies in Korea, such as the Korea Broadcasting System and The Korea Times, to share opinions on mutual exchanges between Nicaragua and Korea, especially in the media field. He will also visit the G-20 Seoul Summit Committee and the National Assembly to promote understanding of major international events and current issues related to Korea.
In addition, he will have opportunities to experience various other aspects of Korea by visiting Samsung Electronics and Sea-A Trading Co. Ltd., which have ongoing collaborative projects with Nicaragua, and touring museums and historical sites in Seoul and Gyeongju city.
