[Invitation] Prof. Dr. Wulf-Dietrich Kopke, Director of the Hamburg Museum of Ethnology, Germany

Prof. Dr. Wulf-Dietrich Köpke, Director of the Hamburg Museum of Ethnology, will visit Korea from October 3 to 9 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

The Hamburg Museum of Ethnology was founded in 1879 and it is one of the largest ethnic museums in Europe with more than 700,000 artifacts from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The Museum declares its motto as “A roof for all cultures.” Since Hamburg consists of people from 150 nations, the Museum works in close cooperation with various groups to organize annual festivals as well as smaller events. The Museum also has 2,200 Korean ethnic artifacts and is planning a government-funded program to be called the “Korea Festival” during 2011 and 2012.

During his stay, Prof. Dr. Köpke will visit relevant institutions and organizations such as  Sejong University, The Museum of Korean Embroidery, The National Folk Museum of Korea, Gyeongju National Museum and Silla Millennium Park. He will also visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwangju Joseon Royal Kiln Museum and the Aram Art Gallery in Goyang City.
