KF 12th Workshop for Korean Art Curators

  • Date Oct 15, 2010
The Korea Foundation will hold the 12th Workshop for Korean Art Curators from October 26 to November 4, 2010, having invited 40 curators from 11 countries responsible for Korean art in their museums. This year’s workshop will explore various aspects of “The Identity of Korean Buddhist Art in East Asian Context.” The workshop program includes a series of lectures and a seminar focusing on the characteristics and development of Korean Buddhist art in East Asian context, reflecting Korea’s artistic exchanges with its neighboring countries. The program also comprises visits to relevant museums with permanent collections and special exhibitions highlighting the essence of Korean Buddhist art. These will include “Goryeo Buddhist Painting” at the National Museum of Korea, as well as field visits to Gyeongju, Tongdosa temple, Haeinsa temple, Bongjeongsa temple, Buseoksa temple, and Dong-A University Museum. Workshop participants will also be invited to take part in an international symposium, “Goryeo Buddhist Painting in the Context of East Asia,” organized by the National Museum of Korea. In addition, the participants will visit major art events such as Media Art Seoul 2010. Since 1999, the Korea Foundation has been hosting this annual workshop program, selecting different themes each year, to provide Korean art curators from abroad with in-depth and intensive opportunities to explore Korean art and culture. The workshop has delivered many pleasing results as participating curators endeavor to develop and progress with their Korean galleries in their own respective countries through exhibitions and educational programs. Moreover, they have been given opportunities to form useful intellectual networks among their fellow participating curators, as well as with domestic specialists.
