[Invitation] California State Senator Gloria Romero, Chair of the Education Committee of the California State Assembly, USA

Calfornia State Senator Gloria Romero, Chair of the Education Committee of the California State Assembly in the United States, will visit Korea from October 22 to October 27, 2010 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

Senator Romero is a prominent American politician, who was elected as a State Senator in 2001 and became the Majority Leader – the first and only woman to ever hold that leadership position in the history of the California State Senate. As Chair of the Education Committee as well as Chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee on Education, she has authored numerous pieces of legislation seeking to restore accountability in the U.S. public school educational system and enhance the learning opportunities for students. She also contributed to the improvement of education in California by creating the Senate Select Committee on important issues on education and leading the reform process of school curriculums.

During her stay in Korea, Senator Romero will visit the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), the Education, Science and Technology Committee of the National Assembly, Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, Korean Educational Development Institute and Korea Education & Research Information Service in order to share information on the education system and curriculums in Korea and discuss current issues related to education. She will also have an opportunity to visit Daewang Middle School, designated by the Korean government as a model school for green growth education.
