[Invitation] Mr. Raymond Keaveney, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland

Mr. Raymond Keaveney, Director of the 『National Gallery of Ireland』, one of the major Galleries in Ireland, will visit Korea from October 24 to October 30, 2010 by invitation of the Korea Foundation.

Mr. Keaveney is originally from the field of Italian art and Old Masters’ paintings. He is a member of committees such as the Bizot Group, a group of museum directors which organizes major exhibitions, the Council of National Cultural Institutions, etc. Since 1988, he has been working as director of the 『National Gallery of Ireland』.

During his stay in Korea, Mr. Raymond Keaveney will visit the Irish Association of Korea to promote understanding of major international events related to Korea and current social and cultural collaborative relations between Ireland and Korea. He will also share opinions on mutual exchanges and cooperation between Ireland and Korea, especially in the fields of exhibition of arts, at the National Museum of Korea, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Arts, and Nam June PAIK Art Center.

In addition, he will have opportunities to experience various other aspects of Korea by visiting N Seoul Tower, Bukchon Hanok Village and touring historical sites in Seoul and Gyeongju city.


*『National Gallery of Ireland』 was opened in 1864 as the first Gallery in Ireland and currently one of the most prominent Irish museums. It has an extensive, representative collection of Irish painting and is also notable for its Italian Baroque and Dutch masters painting. The Gallery is also popular for its paintings by Picasso and Jack B. Yeats and since its renovation of the Beit Wing and construction of the Millennium Wing with innovative interior design, it has been attracting even more people than before.
