The Korea Foundation Award was established in 2008 to honor individuals and organizations who have strived to promote awareness and a better understanding of Korea in the global community. This year, we have further expanded the categories to include public diplomacy and cultural exchange to acknowledge contributions by individuals in a broader context.
After receiving candidate nominations from distinguished scholars and experts from all around the world, the Foundation′s selection committee, composed of relevant experts, held its final meeting on November 15, 2011, to carefully review the merits of each of the nominees. Finally, the committee agreed that the award should be presented to Dr. Ho-min Sohn, Professor of the University of Hawaii, in recognition of his contribution to training next-generation educators of Korean language and laying the foundations for Korean language education in America.
The Award Recipient receives a commemorative plaque with the prize of $10,000, and the Award Ceremony will be held on December 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lotte Hotel.
